I even heard thunder, not much for this month that usually brings a lot of rain, but we will take what we can get. I worked in the park, Henry Cowell Redwood State park today, it is nice after a rain. Visitors from other countries are the most impressed about the large redwoods. They try to take a picture in front of a tree, but the tree is so big it just looks like they are standing in front of a wall.

We haven’t had much rain this month…where is El Nino. Last year we had about 70 inches. I say about, because I average Boulder Creek’s amount and Ben Lomond’s because we are in between. But now I have my own weather station on the roof. Since it went up, almost no weather. I will have to find other things to talk about, like the haunted Brookdale Lodge…
Ahh…black ice. Okay, there are two bad places on Bear Creek Road. Watch out by the stables and watch out at the east end where it says “slide”. I saw the slide sign and I slid. The coldest night here was 24, two nights ago. I think we may have had snow, but it was melted when I woke up. Almost cold enough, 34 and raining. I wonder where banana slugs go when its cold like this. It started to kill my geraniums, that is how I know it has got real cold. When the rubber tree froze, that was just a little cold, but geraniums can take it down to 25 or 26.
The other sign of bad cold is my half breed Chihuahua/Whippet won’t go out to pee….bad news there. But he does it in the bathroom in the shower usually…
I woke at about 6am and notice we were at 28, (same temp as Santa Barbara, Jennifer). Not as bad as some places. Paso Robles was at 14….what’s that about??? I had all these plants taking up the entry way to the house. I think the forest protected us a bit…just a theory…but it does help moderate the temperature in the summer. Maybe it helps keep it warmer in the winter.
On a technical note, I just started back to school this week. So, I did not have time to work on this, but I will be doing some tweaking this weekend. My weather station can show more data then it is. One problem is that some antivirus program is shuting me down…it thinks the data feed from the weather station is a bloodhound like virus trying to get in…
All for now,
Joe the Weatherman of Brookdale
Its been about a week, but there is still a lot of clean up from the big wind storm of last week. We lost power for 14 hours here, but some people lost power for more than three days. I heard one large tree fall on the mountain behind our house. The sound was awesome. Some of these trees are over 250 feet tall and when they fall, it really is scary.
I did a lot of yard work and saw at least 6 big banana slugs. I will have to post some pictures. All for now, peace and love to all.
